Ah ha ha

©2014, Bar Scott ASCAP

I was born near a wishing well
Overgrown when a red oak fell
Hidden in the view
No one else ever knew

Looked down into the wishing well
Wished I may when I heard myself
Fell under its spell
All my wishes held

I sing Ah ha ha, hmm, Sing Ah ha ha, hmm, hey hey hey

Someone said you can never tell
Won’t come you could go to hell!”
Don’t know what to do
If I can’t tell you

I Sing Ah ha ha, hmmm, Sing ah ha ha, hmmm, hey hey hey

One hundred thirty-one buckets of water drawn from that well
Each sip I took made me thirstier for more and more of myself

I was born near a wishing well
far away from here
Ah, it seems so far away
When I turn, if I turn, to look
Ah, it’s not so far away
When I turn, if I turn and look

I sing Ah ha ha, hmm, Ah ha ha,
When I turn, when I look
I sing Ah ha ha
When I turn, when I drink

I sing Ah ha ha
When I turn, when I tell
I sing Ah

Roll Over Me

©2014, Bar Scott ASCAP

Don’t know how to start it
Don’t know how to end
Don’t know where the bridge is
somewhere up ahead

Mary M drew zigs and zaggles
like a million mountains with a river ‘round the bend
Roll over me
Fill me up with things I’d never see and I’ll sing

They say it sounds like a train that’s travelin’
or a day unravelin’
or a kid that’s on a swing
Roll over me
Fill me up with things I’d never see

Snow fallin’, see-sawin’
Ridin’ your bike in the wind
without a rearview mirror
Roll over me
Fill me up with things I’d never see

Snow fallin’, see-sawin’
Ridin’ your bike with the wind
Kisses and carousels, Drivin’ a thunderbird
Gallopin’ with a big herd
without a rearview mirror

Roll over me
Fill me up with things I’d never see
Roll over me
Fill me up with things I’d never see
And I’ll see

If There’s a Way

©2014, Bar Scott ASCAP

If there’s a way to end these tears
so they won’t fall forever after or years
overflow, drowning all of my dreams
I’d catch them all, take them down to the sea
to find a way

At dawn I would lie down before an altar of stone
Watch a songbird flying over the hill
I would wander high above the tree line to see a full moon rise
I’d linger ‘til the morning light
to find a way

I would give up everything I know
I would learn to love again
I would empty every pocket I own
I would carry the hardest sticks and stones
to find a way

I would try to build a shelter without a border or walls
Where I would sit by a bridge
And I would listen to the water fall

Running Away

©2014, Bar Scott ASCAP

You heard every song when I started
Read every line, cried when I cried
Let me underline, I never will forget you
But now it’s time for me to follow love

I’m goin’ away
Turnin’ away
Runnin’ away from you

Remember the view from our garden?
Building a swing, ridin’ the wind?
But she undermined, you never could forget her,
So now it’s time for me to follow love

I’m goin’ away
Turnin’ away
Runnin’ away from you

Never thought I’d run
Never thought I’d run from you

Journey

Look how the world turned out
With all its colors and finery
Song melodies
Lovers and linings
Mothers and rhyming

Friends cycle, faux lashes,
your eyes, and my passion

Journey, you’re an angel,
A wave, a clock in time,
You’re a word and a line

Look how pennies are won!
Pick a road and run
Turn down Poetry Lane or tango with someone

A new heart beating,
A garden, a seedling,
A baby

Journey, you’re an angel,
A wave, a clock in time,

You’re a word or a line
You’re a meadow in the morning
a heron in the sky
you’re a cloud and a kite

Look how pennies are won!
Pick a road and run
Turn down Poetry Lane or tango with someone

Harmony, melody, symphony, parody,
you’re a homily, unity, fantasy, eulogy,
you’re a holiday, reverie, family, energy
you’re a mystery to me
you’re a walk in the park

Look how it all turned out
With all its colors and memory

A Little Love Can Mean A Lot

©2014, Bar Scott ASCAP

Here I am again
I’m in love with you
You’re the man I want
But I can’t get next to you
When you’re not here

I have imagined you
I have dreamed of you
I have asked for a time when a man like you would come for me
And here you are

Sometimes a little love can mean a lot
In time a little love can mean a lot

You respond to me
You reach out for me
You hear my words then I hear your words and they comfort me
When you’re not here

Sometimes a little love can mean a lot
With time a little love could mean a lot
It means a lot

Here I am again
I’m in love with you
You’re the man I love but I can’t get enough of you
When you’re not here

I have imagined you
I have dreamed about you too
I have prayed for a time when you would come and rest with me
And here you are
Here we are!

Sometimes a little love can mean a lot
This time a little love will mean a lot
A little love will mean a lot

A Winter Tide

©2014, Bar Scott ASCAP

Laid down on a lonely night
Only longing and the moon in the sky
No starlight, no candlelight
Not a lantern or a mirror in sight

Come inside and lay with me a while
Pull me in like the tide on a winter night

Hand in hand and eye to eye
In a circle that we’re making in time

Come inside and lay with me a while
Pull me in with the tide on a winter night

I look for you at night
alone again at night with the winter tide

I look for you at night
alone again at night with the winter tide
alone with you at night and the winter tide

Letter Drop

©2014 Bar Scott ASCAP

Eydie stopped believin’ when love had done her wrong
Her days alone, those nights were long
‘til the evenin’ she went eatin’ at the Letter Drop

He had steely, steady eyes
And a smile that made her sigh
Oh my! Deep inside
When he leaned in
Felt him breathin’
Made her wanna rhyme

So around and around and around she’d go in a circle
‘til she knew that she would never stop

She said, “Take my hand and I’ll show you how I dance,
Yeah, I know, it’s kinda slow,
but it’s evenin’ and we’re meeting at the Letter Drop.”

So around and around and around they’d go in a circle
‘til she knew that they would never stop
Then around and around and around they’d go in a circle
‘til they knew that they would never stop

And so Eydie and her Stevey
started meeting every evenin’ at The Letter Drop

I happened to be writing these lyrics and using the name Eydie the week that Eydie Gorme died so I changed the original male character’s name, Steely, to Stevie in honor of she and her husband, Steve.

I’m Not Perfect

© 2014, Bar Scott ASCAP

I’m not perfect and neither are you
I’m just a little girl in lavender shoes
And I don’t wanna lend ‘em to you
Cause you’re not perfect (if only you knew)
You’re just a little girl who whines when her shoes
Aren’t the fit that you wanted
A fit’s what you wanted

If you never got the things that you think you’re due
Maybe you need to change your tune
‘cause a hardened heart becomes a little girl like you

He’s not perfect, he’s nothin’ like you
You’re just a little boy with shit on your shoes
And you kick it wherever you choose
I’m not perfect, and neither are you
I’m just a little girl with gum on her shoes
And I’m stuck where I’m livin
Stuck where I’m livin’

If you were to get the things that you think you’re due
Maybe you’d need to change your tune
‘cause a hardened heart becomes a little boy like you

You

I’m just a little girl
And you’re just a little boy
And she’s just a little girl like you
I’m just a girl like you
What else can we do?

I’m not perfect but neither are you
But I know for certain I wouldn’t wanna be like you

You live in a small cocoon without any breathing room
You and your made-up rules for everyone else, not you
No one is good enough, good enough for you

You

Come by, my love
Sit with me for a while
Tell me everything if you like
So I can hear the voice of John Alan

Fifty years ago, Brother died
words of love left behind
quiet questioning, no reply
you reach for me and try

I can see mountains off in the distance
I can see love from here to there

Was he gentle too? Was he kind?
Quick to laugh? Maybe shy?
Do you wonder now, was he right?
You were all alone at night
Could you cry? Could you see a thing?
Could I hold you now?

When you reach for me and try
I can see mountains off in the distance
I can see love from here to there

Come by me, my love, it’s all right
Tell me everything on your mind
Cause I love your voice
I still hear that voice
And I want to hear your sweet voice and John Alan

I’m in Love

A look at you and I feel our hearts being tuned
no words to use just a touch from you and I knew
Tongues are tied and dreams comin’ true
Never thought I’d be here with you
I’m in love I wanna give you everything

I wanted to if a love like you ever grew
I told myself I could do whatever it took
Now to tell you the truth
I wanna memorize you
Harmonize with you
Learn a thing or two
Synchronize you to everything I do
I wanna customize for you

Cause I’m in love it’s like a song inside of me
I’m in love I wanna give you everything

When you lie here with me there’s such a lot to see
Years of you before me
Makes me wanna categorize every look in your eyes
And the way that you smile
When you’re movin’ at night
I wanna do what you would do
I wanna specialize in you

Cause I’m in love it’s like a song inside of me
I’m in love you’re taken over all of me

I’m in love
